My what a long nose he has, but it's all the better to sniff out a family to love. This chocolate Dachshund is 3 years old and weighs in at a much too thin 15 pounds. A sweet pooch, he's scared of all the noises and barking of bigger dogs at the shelter. He needs to eat a few hearty meals and relax in a quiet, secure location and he's hoping somebody out there knows just the spot.

He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals.

The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514.

Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
