The Newton County Fire Service was dispatched to Newton High School around 10 a.m. Tuesday after an odor of smoke was reported in the computer lab. NCFS Chief Mike Satterfield said students were evacuated to a safe area of the school and after an intensive investigation, firefighters have not found the source of the odor. "Everything looks to be OK right now," Satterfield said around 11 a.m. School officials have also confirmed that construction is ongoing at the school and the electricity was off for a short time, but students are expected to resume their normal class schedules shortly.
