A film crew working on the fifth installment of "The Fast and The Furious" movie franchise has set up operations in a Conyers warehouse as it films scenes of the action-adventure movie across the metro Atlanta area.

The city of Porterdale is honoring the late B.C. Crowell by naming an entire week in his honor. B.C. Crowell Week was declared by proclamation signed by Mayor Bobby Hamby for Aug. 23-28. The week will culminate with B.C. Crowell Day on Saturday, when Hamby will read the proclamation at the annual Porterdale Reunion.
Construction of the Library to Eastside Multi-Use Trail is expected to get under way this fall, after six years of preparation. The three-mile trail will begin at the Newton County Library on Floyd Street and meander in a southeasterly direction through Chimney Park to Martin Street, proceed east along Martin Street, and through undeveloped right of way to Eagle Drive. From there the trail will cross Eagle Drive by way of a pedestrian underpass and continue on an undeveloped 50-foot right of way south to Eastside High School and on to the Alcovy River.
Police were called to the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Friday afternoon after a woman customer told a greeter and a service desk clerk that she was in danger from her abusive husband.
COVINGTON — Overall, high school students in the Newton County School System are performing below state and national averages on the ACT. Eastside High School was the only school to score above the state levels and, in some cases, at the national level.
