Students return to growing GPC campus as class is back in session

COVINGTON -- More than 25,000 students headed to classes at Georgia Perimeter College on Monday. Many of those GPC students were from the Newton County area attending classes on the college's Newton Campus.

Extras sought for 'Footloose'

COVINGTON — Locals are getting a chance to be in Hollywood's spotlight. Casting for extras for the remake of the 1984 smash hit movie "Footloose" will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at DeKalb Technical College, located at 16200 Alcovy-Jersey Road in Covington.

COVINGTON — Although the Newton County School System's SPLOST collections started coming in slowly in this down economy, the figures are looking better.

Firefighter charged with indecency

COVINGTON — A DeKalb County firefighter was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol on Friday afternoon and charged with public indecency, according to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright.
