PORTERDALE — A 14-year-old Covington boy sustained a head injury Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle as he jogged along Highway 81 south of Porterdale near Livingston Elementary School.
According to Gordy Wright, public information officer for the Georgia State Patrol, the accident occurred north of Cowan Road shortly before 6 p.m. "The pedestrian was jogging southbound on Ga. 81 in the paved area between the white fog line and the grassy shoulder when a southbound 1994 Dodge pickup truck was slowing for traffic ahead and struck him," according to Wright. Wright said the youngster was jogging home from a nearby store. Wright added that the roadway was wet at the time of the accident. The victim was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday evening. The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 17-year-old Austin Weeks of Covington. Wright said that charges are pending the completion of the investigation.More like this story
