Newton High School football players took to the practice field on Monday afternoon in preparation for the upcoming season. Although temperatures are still reaching the 90s this week, the humidity wasn't as bad as last week's numbers when teams were operating on altered practice schedules. Above, Tray Sims, a senior wide receiver, goes through a stretching routine with his teammates before practice. The Newton County varsity football teams will play scrimmage games at 7 p.m. Friday -- Alcovy will play Jackson-Atlanta at home, Eastside will play at Heritage and Newton will play at Rockdale. The season will kick off Aug. 27 and 28 with Alcovy and Eastside facing off at Sharp stadium at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and Newton playing Shiloh at home at 7 p.m. Aug. 28.
