PORTERDALE -- Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., will host a community meeting from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Porterdale City Hall.
Marshall represents the 8th Congressional District, which includes central and southern Newton County. Marshall is not in Tuesday's runoff but is running for re-election. His spokesman said the visit is a continuation of a series of public meetings Marshall has been holding for the past couple of years in Newton.
"This is the seventh or eighth one we've done. We work really hard to make sure we get up there. It's a very important community for us," said Marshall spokesman Doug Moore. "Covington and Newton County is a split community with two representatives. I think the community justifiably thought it hadn't had the kind of attention in the past it wanted. We listened and undertook these meetings to make sure they are. This is an important area for us. We don't have a lot of big towns. Covington is a large community for this district, and we try to make sure we pay a lot of attention to it."
The public is invited to ask questions and make comments regarding the economy, health care, energy prices, protecting American jobs and any other areas of concern.
Porterdale City Hall is located at 2400 Main St.
