Gary Mathews, the new superintendent of Newton County Schools, and his wife Pat Mathews, left, chat with Linda Hayden, associate superintendent for curriculum with NCSS, during a reception Friday afternoon welcoming the Mathewses to the community. The event saw hundreds of guests who came by to meet the newest members of the NCSS family. Mathews, who comes to Covington from Virginia, will take the helm as superintendent on July 1.
