Business was brisk for Shred Day, an event co-sponsored by Newton Federal Bank and The Covington/Newton County Chamber of Commerce Wednesday. Here, Kennon Carter, owner of A Cut Above Shredding, feeds the shredder inside his truck. It will hold 7,000 pounds of shredded paper. Businesses and individuals took advantage of the opportunity to destroy sensitive and private documentation. "Fifty-six percent of identity theft victims that could trace the source of the theft ultimately learned that thieves took something that was in their own possession. So, the first rule of identity protection is: If you don't need it, destroy it -- responsibly," said Lisa Oglesby, director of program for the Chamber.
