Roberto Toledo with Hannah Solar works to install solar panels atop the roof of The Center on Washington Street on Thursday. Thirty-nine panels, capable of withstanding winds of up to 90 mph, were installed and will be used to heat water in the building. Earlier in the week, buildings in the Clark's Grove neighborhood got the same treatment, and the Montessori School of Covington will follow next week. These buildings are the first in Covington to utilize solar power. The project was partially funded through a grant from the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority. Property owners provided matching funds.
