COVINGTON -- The Rockdale-Newton Senior Provider Network is giving senior citizens a jam-packed day of education and fun with its annual Health and Wellness Expo on April 30.
The expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Church at Covington, located at 11975 Ga. Highway 142 in Oxford. It is free and open to the public.
"Every year we put together a senior expo made up of a program that consists of current information they can use as well as local area entertainment," said Jeff Hill, expo chairman.
The Rockdale-Newton Senior Provider Network is a nonprofit group focused on senior health care. Its members include assisted living facilities; home health and home hospice agencies; pharmacies; medical equipment companies; and others.
The expo will include informational booths set up by RNSPN members, as well as vendor demonstrations of yoga and other exercise options. Free stroke screenings, massages and nutrition advice will also be provided.
State Sen. John Douglas, R-Social Circle, will be the keynote speaker at 10 a.m. and will be available for a question and answer session afterwards. A panel presentation on resources for seniors addressing Medicare coverage, how to fund retirement, benefits for veterans and more will also be held.
Entertainment will be provided by the senior choirs from Covington First United Methodist and Covington Presbyterian churches; the Steve Biggers Band; and local singer/songwriter Anita Denny.
Vendors will offer door prizes and the grand prize will be a $100 gift card to Wal-Mart.
Free box lunches will be provided.
Though registration will take place at 8:30 a.m. the day of the expo, organizers are urging those interested in attending to register before the event so they can prepare an adequate number of meals.
