Newton Citizen
The season finale of "The Vampire Diaries" began filming this weekend in downtown Covington with hundreds of extras and includes a parade on the Square, fireworks, a carnival and an explosion at the former site of Teacher's Toolbox. Above, this replica of the Newton County Historic Courthouse was used during the festivities which commemorate the 150th birthday of the fictious Mystic Falls. The show chronicles the love triangle between a popular high school student and two brothers -- both vampires, one good, one evil. The season finale will air May 13. The show, which airs Thursday nights on The CW, has been renewed for a second season. Right, the focal point for the mythical celebration at Mystic Falls is Square Park which has a carnival atmosphere for the filming.
