OXFORD -- The Oxford College athletics department wants community members to have a little fun while supporting the school's athletes.
Starting at 8 a.m. April 17, the college will hold its third annual Golf Classic at the Oaks Course, which is located at 11240 Brown Bridge Road in Covington.
"This is a chance to get out in the spring weather, enjoy a great sport and get to know other golf enthusiasts," said Brandon Feldman, director of athletics at the college.
He said the tournament is for anyone.
"The emphasis for the event is fun -- even first-time golfers will enjoy the day," he said. "It's for all skill levels. We play best ball, so you can be playing with a variety of players. It makes it fun for everybody."
Those interested can sign up for $360 per foursome or $100 per golfer to be paired with other players to create a foursome. There is no limit on the number who can participate.
Lunch and beverages are included in the fee, and prizes for both skill and fun will be awarded at the event.
"It's a fun atmosphere," Feldman said. "We had a great turnout last year, so we hope people come out to show their support."
Proceeds from the tournament will support the Oxford Athletics Department, which is made up of four varsity teams and three club sports.
"It will help with travel for the varsity teams and operational expenses for the club sports," Feldman said.
Sponsorship opportunities for the event are available for between $100 and $250 and $2,000 for an overall title sponsorship. Interested businesses, organizations or individuals also may donate prizes for a post-tournament raffle.
