COVINGTON -- Tickets to the Newton Medical Center Auxiliary Gala are currently on sale, and this year the event has special significance.
The auxiliary is marking its 50th anniversary, and the gala will be held at the home of Sam and Louly Hay. Louly Hay's mother, Louly Fowler, was the auxiliary's first president and also lived in the home, located at 3184 Clark St.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. April 24 and will include a tour of the home, cocktails by the pool, dinner, a live band and silent and live auctions.
Items to be included in the auctions include a Georgia Bulldogs gift basket, a 30-minute discovery flight from Covington Municipal Airport, cooking classes for two at Viking Cooking School in Atlanta; wine, jewelry, a ride in a Rolls Royce that once belonged to England's Prince Charles and a stay at vacation homes in Colorado, Florida and the northeast Georgia mountains.
Tickets are $90 and can be purchased by calling 770-788-6553. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, April 16.
"The money will be going for our neonatal intensive care unit. It just opened last March and we still need some equipment and other things," said Martha Taylor, director of volunteer services for the Newton Medical Auxiliary.
All told, the auxiliary's goal is to raise $350,000 through various fundraisers.
