COVINGTON - A Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy was involved in a fatal automobile crash Tuesday afternoon, according to NCSO spokesman Lt. Mark Mitchell.
Mitchell said the crash occurred about 3 p.m. on County Line Road off Henderson Mill Road, just inside the Jasper County line. "The crash resulted in the fatality of a female victim," Mitchell said. Mitchell declined to release any further information about the victim or the accident, saying the Georgia State Patrol in Madison is conducting an investigation into the crash. Also, the GSP's Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team has been called into the investigation. "They will determine the exact cause and the contributing factors of the accident," he said. Mitchell said the deputy was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. "He will be on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation," he said. NCSO Cpl. Anthony Washington said the deputy was driving a Sheriff's Office vehicle on his way to work at the time of the crash.More like this story
