COVINGTON - Although Georgia Perimeter College is experiencing tough financial times along with the rest of the country, the college is moving forward.
The college announced this week that it is looking for part-time faculty as enrollment increases demand.
"Despite statewide cutbacks, GPC is keeping up with the demand for educational services in our communities," said GPC President Dr. Anthony S. Tricoli in a press release. "Opportunities for employment for part-time and full-time faculty at GPC are still available."
School officials said hiring qualified part-time faculty is a top priority to fill classroom needs.
The college is looking for individuals with master's degrees in disciplines offered by GPC. Qualified candidates include those with master's degrees with 18 graduate semester hours or 27 graduate quarter hours in their selected teaching field.
Interested candidates may apply online at www.gpc.edu/employment to be considered for the 2010 part-time teaching opportunities.
Additionally, the college is seeking part-time instructors for learning support and developmental math. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in math and a master's degree or a bachelor's and master's degree in math education or secondary math or a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's degree.
The college did not specify how many positions are open.
GPC, which is the third largest institution of the University System of Georgia, has more than 24,000 students on four campuses and several sites in metro Atlanta, including a campus in Newton County and a site in Conyers at the Rockdale Career Academy.
"This fall we enrolled more than 24,000 students, and we anticipate greater growth in spring 2010," Tricoli said. "To meet these classroom demands, the college is finalizing plans to add more full-time faculty and part-time instructors for spring semester, beginning January 2010."
