Woman beaten, has purse snatched

CONYERS - A woman who was accompanied by her 3-year-old daughter was attacked and had her purse stolen Wednesday as she was leaving the Conyers Wal-Mart.

According to Conyers Police Chief David Cathcart, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. The victim, a 26-year-old Rockdale County resident, had just left from shopping at the store at 1436 Dogwood Drive and had put her daughter in her car in the parking lot. As she walked around to the driver's side, the woman was confronted by the robber.

"She said the suspect grabbed her from behind, and she was able to turn around. When she did turn around, the suspect hit her over the eye and snatched her purse," Cathcart said.

The robber, described as a slender-built black man in his early 30s, left the scene on foot and ran toward the back of the store in the direction of the garden section, Cathcart said.

The victim drove away and called her mother on her cell phone. She advised her to call the police and the victim stopped at the QuikTrip store at 1340 Klondike Road where Conyers Police officers met her.

Cathcart said the officers reported that the woman had a visible bruise above her left eye and left cheek. Medical service was not called and the woman drove home.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to contact CPD Lt. Jack Dunn at 770-929-4211.
