Congressman Marshall to hold town hall meeting Saturday

COVINGTON - Congressman Jim Marshall, a Democrat representing Georgia's 8th district, will hold a town hall meeting for his constituents Saturday.

The meeting will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the Alcovy High School Auditorium at 14567 Ga. Highway 36.

Hot topics are expected to be the economy, health care, energy prices and protecting American jobs.

Marshall will speak at the beginning of the meeting and then open up the floor for questions.

"It's about listening to what folks are thinking," said Marshall's spokesman, Doug Moore. "Every year we try to make sure we have a good number of these town hall meetings. This will be our fourth town hall meeting since August."

Earlier this year, Marshall came under fire from State Sen. John Douglas, R-Social Circle, for holding a health care forum at Newton Medical Center but only inviting hospital administrators and staff.

At a rally for the local Republican Party, Douglas said Marshall should have held an open meeting where voters could have their say.

Moore said Saturday's town hall meeting is not a response to Douglas' criticism.

"I don't give his criticism a lot of weight. We've done four town hall meetings in the last two years. This will be our fifth. We do our best to be visible all throughout the district," he said.
