Eastside girls finish fifth at Northeast Georgia Invitational

ATHENS - The Eastside cross country teams recorded top-10 finishes in the Northeast Georgia Invitational at Athens Christian on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles chalked up a fifth-place finish in the girls race with 142 points. East Jackson won the event with 69 points, followed by Loganville (78), Jefferson (88), Buford (117) and Eastside.

Blakely Smith and Ally Haynie led the way for the Lady Eagles by posting 12th- and 13th-place individual finishes. Smith recorded a time of 22 minutes, 42.33 seconds, and Haynie was less than two seconds behind at 22:44.03.

Naomi Denby (19th, 23:19.50), Mariah Parker (52nd, 26:27.46) and Deanna Kaluta (53rd, 26:32.08) rounded out the top five for the Lady Eagles.

In the boys race, Kyle Yeomans turned in Eastside's best time at 18:46.34 to place 27th individually, as the Eagles posted a ninth-place team finish with 263 points.

Habersham Central claimed the boys title with 71 points. East Jackson was second at 92, followed by Flowery Branch (136), Washington County (158), Loganville (169), Elbert County (194), Hephzibah (230), Stockbridge (237) and Eastside (264).

Rounding out the Eastside top five were Michael Hammock (42nd, 19:20.61), Mikey Rue (46th, 19:23.72), Bilia Prince (78th, 20:16.67) and Jason Croom (83rd, 20:27.41).

The Eastside squads return to action at The Rock Ranch Invitational on Saturday.
