Steve Outz, a bus technician for the Newton County School System, changes the lights on one of the many buses NCSS operates. The buses are required to have monthly inspections, but if any major work is determined to be necessary before the scheduled inspection, the workers take care of it right away. This week, the school system is celebrating National School Bus Safety Week. Sometimes schools honor the system's transportation department - which consists of six staff members, eight mechanics, 235 bus drivers and 51 bus monitors - with special breakfasts and other events for them during the week.
