"Well, here we go again. There's two things Newton County government does not need to be involved in and the taxpayers' money should not be wasted on such ventures. One is that railroad; two is a hotel at the annex building. Why is the county wasting revenue that we do not have doing title/deed searches along that right of way when county services are being cut and county employees are furloughed? Whoever made that decision should be personally responsible for payment. Wake up, people, government needs to be held accountable."

"It seems like every time you turn around someone is complaining about the race card being played. If (people) would stop bringing it up, maybe it would go away. I understand the hard feelings that were brought about over the Lanny Barnes/King and Casola families situation, but the beating of a dead horse is the first thing that comes to mind. I have been told that Lanny Barnes made a profession of faith and asked for his forgiveness while he was in jail. Whether he did or not, the only thing that is in the ground is the empty shell that his soul was in. His soul is in either heaven or hell and that was between him and God. As far as the goings on at the grave, if the Casolas are a Christian family, they haven't proved it. The word of God tells us that a tree can be recognized by the fruit that it bears. The fruit that has been seen is not a fruit that the spirit of God blesses a Christian with. I rest my case, and may Lanny Barnes' soul rest in peace. It's over with and life goes on. God will still be the final judge."

"To the person who wrote about the electronic signs at Eastside and Alcovy, Newton also has one of the boards. All of the signs were put up before the budget cuts were mentioned last year. If you were going the speed limit through those areas maybe you could read them. I go through there every day and I can see them fine at 35 mph. Also to the parent who mentioned missing Dr. Daria, Eastside has not changed; it still leads the county and state. The students at Eastside get a better education because the students understand they are there to learn, and if they refuse that then they're gone! If your child could act right then he or she would still be there!"

"I just read an article, published by Reuters, that Barack Obama has ordered federal agencies to cut their greenhouse gas emissions. The White House said they were 'leading by example' in fighting climate change. How can he lead by example when he is jumping on the presidential jet several times a week and flying around the world? Doesn't he realize that jet fuel costs money and contributes to pollution? Not only is he flying at taxpayers' expense, his wife and her friends do the same on the other presidential jet. Then we find that Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats have their fleet of taxpayer-owned jets to fly them at taxpayers' expense. It seems that the only ones that will be required to cut greenhouse emissions will be you and me, and that is going to cost you and me ..."

"I truly enjoyed reading the article concerning the deputy that saved the choking infant. Thank heavens this deputy had special training and a quick response. His training is special, as deputies are not given first responders courses. They can be the first ones to you in an emergency but all they are trained to do is 'secure the premises.' This should be a call to action for our new sheriff. Courses should be offered, if not required, for the men and women in law enforcement."

"Yikes! The city of Covington might possibly take over operations at the airport? I hope they do a lot better job than they did operating Covington Cable TV! They could have done a better job with that if they'd really tried. The last few months prior to Charter's acquisition, Covington Cable TV was advertising like crazy trying to build a better customer base. If they'd been doing that all along, we'd still have Covington Cable TV and a much better service ... . As far as the city of Covington trying to operate the airport, it's hard to be King of the Mountain when you're just a Fool on the Hill. Mercy!"

"The Dynamic Duo plus Oprah could not do it. The quick arrival and departure of the 'rock star' did not clinch it. Chicago was voted out in the first round by the International Olympic Committee. All the money we taxpayers spent for Air Force One and the second plane going to Copenhagen was another big waste. All the people in America hurting who could have used some of that huge amount of money. Obama will have to figure out some other way for payback to all the people in Chicago who helped him get elected. Nice to know where his priorities lie when health care, the war in Afghanistan, unemployment and the economy had to take a back seat to his ego. Shall we say, 'Big mistake again, Mr. President?' ... Can't you ever accept blame for your failures? How much longer will you continue to blame former President Bush for your mistakes? If you had succeeded with the Olympics try, would you have given him the credit, since you so quickly blamed him for the failure?"

"I just want to tell you it is a crying shame the way the restaurants and grocery stores - I won't call no names 'cause y'all probably won't print them - the way they waste food at night. I was in a certain restaurant and they made the wrong hamburger and I took it back to get them to take the cheese off and what did they do? They threw the hamburger away and I could have taken it home to my mama or somebody. It is a crying shame something needs to be done. They ought to give that food away to somebody. They used to till one dumb person tried to sue them and now they have to get rid of it, throw it away. They ought to let people sign papers that they would take it without no risk. I am sure there probably are plenty of hungry people that would do that. It is a shame the way the school system do these days, won't let the teachers tell you about God or nothing and want to fire teachers for doing that. If I was going to school down there and they tell me I couldn't pray, wouldn't nobody stop me from saying a prayer in school."

"Sounds as though Commissioner Henderson has gotten his feelings hurt - again - because the Recreation Commission wants to clarify the management of the center if they are tasked with maintaining the facility. Henderson did not object when it was suggested a few weeks ago. It's time for Henderson to grow up and stop acting like a spoiled child when the County Commission does not agree with him. If he wants to be in complete and total charge, perhaps he should run for president."

"In response to the motorcycles never getting caught for speeding. First, have you ever called and complained to the appropriate law enforcement agency about your complaint? Second, very few motorcycles will stop when they are being pulled over. They will try to get away. Police cars will not keep up with a motorcycle and some agencies have a no chase policy. Most motorcycle chases end with a fatality, and then it turns into a police bashing because the driver chose to run instead of being a man and pull over and take the ticket. No matter how much we complain, law enforcement can't be everywhere at one time."
