Betty Ware, left, who has been a volunteer with Newton Medical Center for 33 years has put away her pink jacket and announced plans to retire to South Carolina. The announcement was made at a NMC Auxiliary luncheon attended by more than 200 of Ware's colleagues, friends and well-wishers. "Our hospital has been a much better facility because we had Betty Ware as a member of our Auxiliary and especially because of her service on our patient care units," said guest speaker James Weadick, right, CEO and hospital administrator. "We all will miss her very much." Ware joined the Auxiliary in 1976 and has served 5,530 hours. She has helped with registration for blood drives twice each year, only missing two drives in more than 30 years. In December 2006, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Office of the President of the United States for serving over 4,000 hours at Newton Medical Center.
