COVINGTON - The pageant with a purpose is just around the corner.
Entries are now being accepted for the Miss Sweetheart Relay 2010 Pageant, which benefits the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
The pageant will take place Oct. 25 at Eastside High School.
Registration is due by Oct. 18, but Pageant Director Beth Bradley said those who can't make that deadline won't be turned away.
"(Last year) we raised over $4,400 dollars from the pageant for the fight against cancer. We would love to be able to break the $5,000 mark this year," she said.
The entry fee is $60. Checks should be made payable to Relay for Life and mailed to Beth Bradley, 1120 Knights Ridge Drive, Rutledge, GA 30663.
Entry forms are available by calling Bradley at 770-377-9244 or e-mailing email@example.com.
Age divisions in the pageant range from birth to 21 years. There were a total of 42 contestants last year.
Miss Sweetheart Relay is a natural look pageant, meaning contestants are expected to have age appropriate hair and makeup.
"This is a great pageant for the first-time pageant girls. It's more of a fund raiser versus a pageant. Everybody goes home with a prize," Bradley said.
Registration will open the day of the pageant at 12:30 p.m. and the pageant will begin at 2 p.m.
For those who just want to observe, admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life, the Cancer Society's annual spring fund raiser.
"I don't keep anything. I'm not making any money on this ... after I pay the bills, it all goes to Relay," Bradley said, adding that donations help reduce the cost of putting on the event.
