COVINGTON - The investigation into Tuesday's fatal crash involving a Newton County deputy on his way to work continues, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP spokesman Lt. Paul Cosper confirmed Wednesday that 36-year-old Paula Dobbs of Covington was killed in the Jasper County crash. "She apparently pulled out from Rocky Creek Road and pulled into the path of the deputy," Cosper said. "She failed to yield and no charges are expected against the deputy." Dobbs was driving a Honda Accord and the deputy was in his patrol unit. Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol in Madison are conducting the investigation into the crash, along with GSP's Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on County Line Road off Henderson Mill Road, just inside the Jasper County line. The deputy was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, but was treated and released. "He did not have any visible injuries according to the troopers at the scene," Cosper said. Lt. Mark Mitchell with the Newton County Sheriff's Office said in accordance with department policy, the deputy would be on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.
