A perfect night: Henderson untouched in 1-0 Eastside win

COVINGTON - Amanda Henderson, Eastside's only softball senior, had a great game in the circle against Ola on senior night Wednesday.

Henderson pitched her fourth perfect game of the season against the Class AAAA No. 7 Lady Mustangs with a 1-0 win.

"It's absolutely the best one yet. I knew it was going to be big because they've only lost one game this season," she said. "I was a little nervous, but it feels amazing to have another perfect game on senior night, especially against them."

Henderson finished the game with nine strikeouts.

"I'm glad we won because you never want to lose on senior night. It just happened that we played Ola on senior night. I didn't mean for it to happen that way," Eastside coach Jason Stokes said. "But a victory is a victory, and I'm mighty proud of the girls."

Both Henderson and Ola pitcher Lexi Henderson had a perfect game going through four innings before Taylor Causey ripped a double for the first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth with two outs.

"We had been turning it on with the bats lately," Stokes said. "Our trend has been hit early, don't do anything late. So when we didn't start to hit early I was like 'Oh my goodness, we're in for a long one.'"

The Lady Eagles broke the tie when courtesy runner Maryann Fearnow scored on a Savannah Upshaw single.

Eastside's other hit was a single by Emily Almond that also came in the fifth inning.

"In that (fifth) inning, even the two outs that were made, they were hit very solid. I am pleased with that because it shows that we can hit late instead of hitting early."
