April Conway has always had an affinity for animals. "I've loved animals from the time I was 3 or 4," said Conway. "My mother tells me I was chasing squirrels at a young age. By the time I was 10, I knew I wanted to join the Peace Cops and live in a hut in Africa."

Rockdale applies for trail grant

Rockdale County plans to apply for a $100,000 state grant to construct a new trail through Wheeler Park. Jackie Lunsford, Rockdale County Recreation and Maintenance deputy director, presented the Georgia Recreational Trails Program grant opportunity at the Nov. 9 Board of Commissioners meeting. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources grant requires a 20 percent match, and the state will reimburse up to $80,000 of what is spent on the project.

Residents to sound off on 2010 budget

A millage rate increase looms as the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners inches closer to approving the 2010 budget. A public hearing is slated for Monday in which residents can provide their input on the budget process.

Group to hold forum on budget

Homeowners for Better Government will host a citizen forum Thursday at 7 p.m., at the J.P. Carr Community Center on 981 Taylor St. to give the public an opportunity to hear from local officials and ask questions about the county's proposed 2010 budget.
