Saturdays in November are busy at Chimney Park behind the Newton County Library on Floyd Street. Volunteers and Friends of Newton Parks board members are working hard to prepare the park for the second annual Twilights at Chimney Park, set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6.
Here, Oxford College students Evan Dunn and Alexa Roth are stringing lights in the trees that line the approach to Twilights at Chimney Park. The festival will feature caroling and storytelling, popcorn, hot chocolate and s'mores around a fire pit, trees hung with natural ornaments made by school children and unique lighting elements that will sparkle in the woods. The event is free, but donations are encouraged.
More volunteers will be welcome any Saturday in November, including Thanksgiving weekend, to help tidy the park, string lights and install special elements. Bring work gloves, shovels, rakes and clippers. Snacks and beverages will be provided. For information, call Barbara Morgan at 770-385-8811.
