Cousins cheerleaders win awards
The competition cheerleading squad from Cousins Middle School recently competed at the Putnam County Spirit Spectacular and placed second out of nine middle schools in their division.
NCSS receives award for participation in 2009 Relay for Life
Recently, Newton County School Superintendent Steve Whatley and members of the school board accepted an award on behalf of the school district from Becky Byrum of the Newton County Relay for Life program for having 100 percent school participation in the 2009 Relay for Life Program.
ACT announces poster contest for students
ACT recently kicked off its annual high school student poster design contest. The special event encourages creativity on the part of students as they make plans to attend college and to take the ACT college entrance exam.

A generous helping for Turkey Day

Project Adventure Kids needs some holiday help

COVINGTON -- The Rotary Club of Covington will begin taking applications Monday from local residents for assistance through the club's Empty Stocking Fund program.
Police arrest couple after domestic incident
COVINGTON -- Covington Police arrested a man for allegedly threatening his wife with a knife and later arrested her for allegedly hiding the knife, according to a Covington Police Department incident report.
