Cousins cheerleaders win awards

NCSS receives award for participation in 2009 Relay for Life

Recently, Newton County School Superintendent Steve Whatley and members of the school board accepted an award on behalf of the school district from Becky Byrum of the Newton County Relay for Life program for having 100 percent school participation in the 2009 Relay for Life Program.

ACT announces poster contest for students

ACT recently kicked off its annual high school student poster design contest. The special event encourages creativity on the part of students as they make plans to attend college and to take the ACT college entrance exam.

Head of the class: Sheets named top teacher in Newton

COVINGTON -- Your eyes didn't deceive you this morning if you saw fourth-grade teacher Melanie Sheets ride up to Heard-Mixon Elementary School in a limo.She was named Newton County's 2010 Teacher of the Year during a reception Thursday afternoon at Newton High School's Olive Swann Porter Auditorium.

Project Adventure Kids needs some holiday help

Police arrest couple after domestic incident

COVINGTON -- Covington Police arrested a man for allegedly threatening his wife with a knife and later arrested her for allegedly hiding the knife, according to a Covington Police Department incident report.
