NEWBORN -- The creativity of more than a dozen local artists will be on display this month at the Broughton Artists Fall Show in Newborn.
The show kicked off last night and is scheduled to run for the next two weekends.
Pottery, fiber art, paintings, beeswax candles, handmade soap, jewelry, ornaments, gourmet jellies, chainsaw carvings and more will be for sale at the show, which was started by Elizabeth Collins of Sparkle Plenty Art three years ago.
Collins, who does clay-based artwork, had been traveling around to similar shows when she discovered she needn't leave her own backyard.
"I came to find out there are a lot of artists in this area, believe it or not. We gathered here to do a fall show and we got a real good response," she said.
The show is held in a cabin on Collins' property, located at 2855 Broughton Road, about 2 miles outside of Newborn.
About 15 artists are expected to participate this year, and some will give demonstrations of their craft.
"We have a nice variety of things, and we also have lots of goodies to eat. We're kind of known for that, too," Collins said.
The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m today and Nov. 14. Hours on Sundays are from 1 to 5 p.m. The show will also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
"It's a very eclectic group of artists. We have some traditional work, but it's a very eclectic group. It's one of those events you come to and hang out for a while. It's not something you want to come and run through and leave. It's fun to sit around and talk," Collins said.
