Covington Firefighters will be out with boots in hand over the Memorial Day weekend, Friday through Sunday, collecting funds for the 20th annual Georgia Burn Foundation's "Give Burns the Boot" campaign. Look for firefighters at Kroger on U.S. Highway 278 and the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Ga. Highway 142. Funds generated will be used for fire safety education, supporting Georgia burn centers and assisting burn survivors in their recovery. One of the special ways burn survivors are assisted is through Camp Oo-U-La, Georgia's only camp held exclusively for burn-injured children. Last year Covington firefighters collected $8,008.28. This year's goal is $10,000, according to Engineer Jody Roberson, far right, who is coordinator of the campaign. Other CFD firefighters shown here are, from left, Wes Daniel, Brad Smith, Allen Stoud, David Powell and Lance Collum.
