Gresham complaint sent to Attorney General DA: Complaint moot due to prosecution

COVINGTON - The state Board of Elections has referred a complaint against former Newton County Board of Education candidate Horace Don Gresham to the Attorney General's Office.

COVINGTON - Children in Newton and Rockdale counties have been confirmed to have contracted H1N1 influenza, also known as swine flu, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Division of Public Health said Monday.

Recognizing the rescuers

Jim Meynard, executive director of the Georgia Firefighters' Pension Fund, poses with three newly installed life-sized bronze sculptures outside the Pension Fund's headquarters on East View Parkway in Conyers. The GFPF Board of Trustees commissioned in May 2008 Hanlon Studios of Toms River, N.J., to sculpt and cast the three life-sized figures of active firefighters, honoring all firefighters of Georgia. State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine is slated to appear at the dedication ceremony for the sculpture at 11:30 a.m. today.

The following food service establishment inspection reports were provided by the Environmental Health Division of the Rockdale County Health Department and the Newton County Health Department. Restaurants that score from 90 to 100 get a letter grade A; those that rate 80-89 get a B; a tally of 70-79 is a C; and below 70 is a U, or unacceptable. A restaurant scoring 70 or above is allowed to operate if there are no critical violations. If a facility is rated U on consecutive inspections, it must close and the owner must prove that it can be operated safely before reopening is allowed.

NCSO adds motorcycle, drug canine

COVINGTON - The Newton County Sheriff's Office is looking to slow speeders, and they have a new weapon in their arsenal. Sheriff Ezell Brown announced late last week that the four-man NCSO Traffic Unit now has a second motorcycle and motorists should expect to see the two deputies on motorcycles enforcing speed limits.
