ALBANY - It was a monumental Friday for Eastside's J'quyia Moncur-Blue.
At the Class AAA state tournament, Blue swept the state titles in the shot put, with a throw of 41-10, and discus, throwing at 126-5 and electrifying the crowd at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
Blue helped the Eagles to a third-place finish through the tournament's second day, just one point back of second-place St. Pius and 18 points behind Towers.
Heritage Jada Fambrough finished second in her preliminary heat (2:23.71), two weeks after winning the Region 8-AAAA title in the event. The field events wrapped up Friday with the Patriots' Deja White finishing sixth in the high jump (5-0), while teammate Chantai Harris was fourth in the pole vault (8-6), helping Heritage climb to 10th in the Class AAAA team standings.
In other preliminaries, Eastside's Kimberly Thomas was fourth in the 400 meters (59.56), and helped the Eagles' 400-meter relay team to a seventh-best time (Jasmine Jenkins, Cierra Johnson and Shaniko Robinson) of 49.66. Salem's 1,600-meter relay team (Alyxandra Pinkston, Jasmine Springer, Shannon Christian and Jaleen Thomas) picked up the third-best time of 4:03.11.
The all-class state tournament concludes today.
