Covington resident Angela Hodges, front left, was recently named Conservationist of the Year for Newton County by the Upper Ocmulgee River Soil and Water Conservation District. The award was presented at the district's annual program for the achievements in soil and water conservation on her farm. Hodges and her husband, Bo Thompson, operate Anna Beth's Farm, which is named after her niece and located on Ga. Highway 229. They have installed many conservation practices through the 319 Grant, including livestock exclusion fence for their pond and creek, installed water facilities with heavy use protection areas, cross fence to promote rotational grazing and nutrient management. Congratulating Hodges are, left to right, Thompson, Brent Dykes, Larry McSwain, David Hays and Phil Standard.
