COVINGTON - The Eastside boys track team will have four athletes participating in next week's state track meet at Jefferson.
The Eagles collected a total of six state meet berths in the Region 8-AAA Meet held at Stephens County High School in Toccoa.
Karl Williams and Dominique Hubert each won a region championship and collected two state meet berths.
Williams won the region title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.43 seconds. He also picked up another state berth with a runner-up finish in the discus with a toss of 129 feet, 5 inches. Williams had a near-miss in the 200-meter dash, finishing third in 22.18 seconds.
Hubert chalked up the region championship in the long jump at 23 feet, 71/4 inches. He also gave Eastside a one-two finish in the 100, placing second behind Williams at 10.51 seconds.
Charlie Jones earned a trip to state with a runner-up finish in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes, 0.68 seconds. His teammate, Martavious Boatwright, finished third in 2:03.30.
Anderico Bailey added the Eagles' other state berth in the high jump, tying for second with an effort of 6 feet, 4 inches.
Two other Eagles came up just short in their bids to qualify for the state meet.
James Johnson finished third in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 101/4 inches, five inches behind second place.
Sam Johnson missed a trip to state in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles by .35 seconds. He placed third at 41.75 seconds in the event. Johnson was also fifth in 110-meter high hurdles at 16.34 seconds.
Overall, the Eagles finished third in the team standings with 100 points.
Elbert County claimed the Region 8-AAA title with 182.5 points, followed by Oconee County in second at 121. Hart County (69.5) was fourth and Franklin County was fifth (54).
