COVINGTON - The Eastside Lady Eagles lost a costly 3-2 match against Rockdale on Monday before winning a 3-2 game against Cedar Shoals on Wednesday.
Cedar Shoals took a 1-0 lead on an own goal following a Cedar Shoals corner kick at the 35:30 mark. Eastside came back quickly again, scoring twice in six minutes, as Courtney Ellis scored off an Amber LaFond assist for the tie before LaFond followed with a goal of her own to make it 2-1 at half. Tara Harrison stretched the Eastside led to 3-1 with her first varsity goal when she scored into the far post on a breakaway. Cedar Shoals scored with 9:05 left in the game on a ball that appeared to be covered by Eastside keeper Kayla Jones but popped out and was kicked in from short range. In the Rockdale game, Eastside led 2-1 when leading scorer Ashton Ziadie broke her collarbone with 30:13 left in the first half when she had a collision with a Rockdale player on a 50-50 ball. Rockdale scored with 7:22 left before half to knot the game The Lady Bulldogs scored the game-winning goal with 16:33 left in the match. Despite giving up the goal, the Eastside keeper had a busy night with 16 saves in the second half alone.More like this story
