WOODSTOCK - Looking for a way to perk up your pet's wardrobe? Look no further than the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival where you'll find Sweetpeas Posh Pets, a virtual haberdashery for the hairy set.
Kacie Hoostal, along with a business partner and her mom, has been creating pet products and selling them at festivals and fairs for the past seven years. However, this is the first year they've taken part in the Cherry Blossom Festival.
"We offer handmade items for pets, including apparel, collars, leashes, harnesses, gourmet treats for them, accessories, such as little hair accessories, little bandannas and that sort of thing," Hoostal said.
Hoostal said that all items offered by Sweetpeas Posh Pets are handmade and come in sizes from the "little teenies up to great Danes and mastiffs."
"Probably our best-selling things are little dresses we make for dogs," she said. "We do all the holidays, and in fact, we are doing a special one for the Cherry Blossom Festival."
Holiday dresses aren't the only specialty items available. Pooches who are less famous than Smokey and Uga can get their collegiate gear from Sweetpeas, and doting owners can purchase T-shirts with slogans such as "Mama's Boy" and "Spoiled Rotten."
And when it's time to retire for the evening, the well-dressed pet can snuggle into some PJs with matching robe.
All of Sweetpeas Posh Pets apparel is made from fabric - even the collars, which come in a variety of prints, from paisleys to polka dots.
And if you're wondering who gets to model all of this attire, Hoostal keeps that duty all in the family.
"I have two pugs - they are my kids," she said. "I don't have any kids, so they are my children, and everything gets tested on them."
Hoostal said the stock market may be down, but pet owners are bullish when it comes to their animal companions. In fact, she said, Sweetpeas Posh Pets hasn't slowed down a bit.
"I would say definitely over the last four or five years, there has really been a big (growth) trend, and I know with people saying the economy (is down), a lot of retail businesses have suffered," Hoostal said. "But ours has stayed consistent, so we have been really, really blessed."
Sweetpeas Posh Pets can be found at booths 316 and 316A at the Cherry Blossom Festival and online at www.giftsforpetsandpeople.com.
