Health Reports - 03/24/09

The following food service establishment inspection reports were provided by the Environmental Health Division of the Rockdale County Health Department and the Newton County Health Department. Restaurants that score from 90 to 100 get a letter grade A; those that rate 80-89 get a B; a tally of 70-79 is a C; and below 70 is a U, or unacceptable. A restaurant scoring 70 or above is allowed to operate if there are no critical violations. If a facility is rated U on consecutive inspections, it must close and the owner must prove that it can be operated safely before reopening is allowed.

· Frontera Mex-Mex Grill, 64-U, 1820 Ga. Highway 20, Suite 256, Conyers. Date: Feb. 10

Violations: Employee not washing hands after touching dirty dishes then touching clean dishes. Person in charge could not inform or present information about health policy or awareness. Dish machine not operating properly. Stored pans unclean with food-like debris. Several items not cold holding at the proper temperature. Items on prep line/make line unit being held with time as a control, not properly documented with proper temperature log or procedure book. Sanitizing solution concentration too high. Butane lighters stored on top of prep line table. Food items not properly labeled with product identity. Pans stored stacked on one another wet. Fryer baskets in disrepair. Gaskets on reach-in prep cooler in disrepair. Prep cooler not maintaining proper holding temperature. Electrical wires by prep line dirty with debris. Clean wires and six-way power strip unit to remove debris.

Violations: Observed employees rinse hands without using soap then put on glove. Utensils (knives) stored in handwash sink. Multiple potentially hazardous foods requiring cold holding being held at an improper temperature. Damaged utensils (Lexan lids) still in use. Damaged/missing coved base. Damaged wall tiles. Observed not covered trash container in restroom.

Violations: Damaged/missing coved base. Damaged wall tile in kitchen area.

· China Star, 95-A, 13015 Brown Bridge Road, Covington. Date: Feb. 25

Violations: Employee drinks in food prep area. Wet mop stored in bucket.

· Bangkok Grill, 100-A, 5135 U.S. Highway 278, Covington. Date: Feb. 26

· Dairy Queen, 99-A, 3125 U.S. Highway 278, Covington. Date: Feb. 27

Violations: Dirty floor and wall beside fryer need cleaning. Wet mop stored in bucket.

· Occie's Tackle Box, 88-B, 7100 Washington St., Covington. Date: Feb. 27

Violations: Tarter sauce and canned milk sitting out at room temperature. No backflow prevention on three-compartment sink and vegetable sink. Paint peeling off wall and molding not sealed. Replace missing cove molding. Wet mop stored in bucket. Floors, walls and door jambs dirty going down hallway to bathrooms. Employee's purse and food stored next to food items.
