CONYERS - A 34-year-old Decatur man was killed Friday morning when a car traveling along Ga. Highway 138 struck him and pinned him against the rear of a waste delivery truck while he was unloading a trash can.
Chief Deputy Rob Cordero with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office said Shawn Robertson, 34, of Wellhaun Road in Decatur, died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the crash. Cordero said Saturday that Robertson, an employee of Curbside Waste Systems out of Covington, was loading a trash can in the rear of the waste truck that was parked in the first lane of northbound traffic on Ga. Highway 138 S., just east of Hasty Drive near Heritage High School. Sometime around 8:30 a.m., a 2008 Dodge Charger traveling in that same lane struck him from behind. "The waste truck did have its emergency lights flashing, but it was parked in the first lane of travel," Cordero said. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and removed Robertson from the site of the crash. He was transported by ambulance to Rockdale Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Cordero said. The 22-year-old driver of the Charger was transported by ground ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries. Cordero said no charges in the wreck have been filed, but the investigation is continuing. Aimee Jones can be reached at aimee.jones@rockdalecitizen.com.More like this story
