The following food service establishment inspection reports were provided by the Environmental Health Division of the Rockdale County Health Department and the Newton County Health Department. Restaurants that score from 90 to 100 get a letter grade A; those that rate 80-89 get a B; a tally of 70-79 is a C; and below 70 is a U, or unacceptable. A restaurant scoring 70 or above is allowed to operate if there are no critical violations. If a facility is rated U on consecutive inspections, it must close and the owner must prove that it can be operated safely before reopening is allowed.

Violations: Employee put on gloves without first washing hands. Observed bottled water that was open in server area. Mold-like substance in ice maker. Blade of can opener soiled. Employees with unapproved items on arm while preparing food items. Wiping cloths stored on counter instead of sanitizing solution. Facility not in compliance with Georgia Smoke Free Air Act. Observed knife stored between equipment. Wet utensils stored stacked on one another. Damaged door gasket seal on reach-in cooler. Deteriorating fryer basket still in use. Outside of equipment soiled. Observed leaking p-trap on handwash sink.

Violations: Need consumer advisory on menu. Ice scoop stored in ice maker. Walk area behind dish machine unclean with mold-like debris.
· Baum's Famous BBQ, 91-A, 2582 Old Covington Highway, Conyers. Date: Feb. 12
Violations: Raw chicken stored over hotdogs.
· Dairy Queen, 68-U, 3125 U.S. Highway 278, Covington. Date: Feb. 12
Violations: Manager did not have health policy. Not reheating chili and mushrooms to proper temperature before hot holding. Food not being cold held properly. Food not being hot held properly. Not date marking properly. Using bowls as scoops and leaving in product (bacon, sugar, flour). Keeping hose end down in trash cans with water in it. No backflow prevention on vegetable sink or three-compartment sink. Storing wet mop in bucket.
· Hardee's, 91-A, 2101 Flat Shoals Road, Conyers. Date: Feb. 12
Violations: Raw chicken stored over ready-to-eat ham and cheese.
· McDonalds, 85-B, 4147 Salem Road, Covington. Date: Feb. 13
Violations: Coke nozzles dirty with mold growing on them. Mold in ice machine at top. Single-service food items stored on floor at outside storage room. Employees in the food prep area wearing watches, bracelets. Employees in food prep area not wearing hair restraints. Broken handles on hot holding containers. Walk-in freezer broken and has ice build up. No test strips for sanitizer. Gaskets on reach-in cooler dirty, vent-a-hood dirty, top of fryer station dirty. Eating area slightly dirty (floors, tables, play area, condiment area). Floors behind espresso machine dirty. Floors behind grill dirty. No light shields/covers in storage building outside. Outside freezer door and side entrance door not sealing at thresholds.
· Pizza Hut No. 711838, 83-B, 425 Sigman Road, Conyers. Date: Feb. 13
Violations: Person in charge not familiar with health policy. Rear handwash sink missing power towels. Cleaner stored over food product. Employee not wearing hair restraint preparing food. Employees preparing food while wearing unapproved jewelry on wrists. Damaged door gasket seals on reach-in cooler. No test strips for checking sanitizer level in dish machine. Soiled door gasket seals on reach-in cooler. Food debris dripped on shelves. No covered trash container in restroom. Sliding doors of dumpster open. Good general cleaning needed in facility. Interior of dish machine need cleaning.
· Lucy's Wings & Things, 97-A, 4220-B Ga. Highway 142, Covington. Date: Feb. 16
Violations: No backflow prevention on drain lines of veggie sink and ice machine. Drain line leaking under ice machine. Tile missing in kitchen and storage areas.
· The Squeeze Inn, 48-U, 9209 U.S. Highway 278, Covington. Date: Feb. 16
Violations: No food safety certification employee after initial 90 days from opening - have 10 business days to enroll employee in food safety class; if not enrolled permit will be suspended. Employee did not wash hands before putting on gloves to work with food. Employee handling hamburger buns, onions, tomatoes and lettuce bare-handed. Using vegetable/meat/hand sink combo sink in kitchen - must keep separate. Employee handling raw bacon then handled shredded cheese without washing hands in between. Handling spatulas (with raw bacon and beef juices on handles) then handling buns, lettuce, onions with no hand washing. Slicer and dicer dirty. Have homemade fries sitting out at room temperature. Sanitizer too strong at three-compartment sink and bucket up front. Thawing hot dogs out in sink. Using vegetable/meat sink combo unit. Coke nozzles broken. No backflow prevention on three-compartment sink and vegetable/meat sink combo. Must install back flow prevention on drain lines of both sinks. 45 days to fix. Hose end down in mop sink. Crawl space door missing on back of building outside.
