COVINGTON - Effective Monday, hours for neighborhood recycling centers will change.

The majority of centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. Previously, they were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be no change to weekend hours.

The exception is the center on Hazelbrand Road, which will maintain its 1 p.m. opening time.

Landfill Manager James Peters said opening two hours later on weekdays will cut 100 hours per week and as a result, save the county money.

The decision to alter the times was made by county officials who were trying to make up for a $5 million shortfall to this year's budget, Peters said.

Peters said he did not know how much the county would save with the reduction.

Administrative Officer John Middleton could not be reached for comment.

The new hours at Neighborhood Recycling Centers are:

· Adams Circle - Mon.- Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. - Sun. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

· Bypass/Flat Shoals Road - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

· Cook Road - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

· Dial Mill Road - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

· Hazelbrand Road - Sun.-Fri. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

· Hwy. 212/Hwy. 162 - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

· McGiboney Road - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. - Sun. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

· Oak Hill Road - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. - Sun. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

· Piper Road - Mon.- Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

· Stewart VFD - Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sat. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
