COVINGTON - Newton's boys and girls track teams had some rather impressive finishes against good competition in a four-way track meet at Newton High School on Tuesday.
The boys relay teams won both races, crossing the finish line in 41.98 in the 4x100-meter race. "Also the boys 4x400-meter team won a very tight and exciting race versus Shiloh," Newton coach Cortez Allen said. "There were outstanding performances by Akeem Hunt in 100, Devaughn Mann and Dexter Springer in the 400." In the girls meet, Ameryst Armstead had a first-place finish in the 3,200 and second place finishes in the 1,600, 800 and as a member of the 4x4 relay team where she ran the anchor leg. "(The 4x4 team) finished second to a very talented Mundy's Mill girls team that finish in the top eight in the state last year," Allen said. Also having a good finish in the 400 was Aliea Griffin.More like this story
