Schools to hold job fair

COVINGTON - Even in a tight budget year with staff cuts, officials at the Newton County School System anticipate needing some staff in areas that weren't cut due to attrition.

After reducing nearly 100 positions earlier this year in effect for the next school year, the Human Resources department anticipates having a shortage in some critical areas due to current employees resigning or retiring.

This year, school officials are seeking certified and highly qualified teachers in special education and in middle and high school grades, specifically in the subjects of math and science.

To prepare for that shortfall, NCSS will hold a job fair from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastside High School, which is located at 10245 Eagle Drive in Covington.

The eligible teachers do not have to register before the event, but they will need to bring multiple copies of their resume with them; they also should be prepared to interview with school administrators.

Administrators and representatives from each of the NCSS middle and high schools will be present Saturday to interview applicants and answer their questions.

"This job fair will be an excellent opportunity for teachers to meet and interview with school principals, learn more information about the school system and the local community and obtain information on current job openings and requirements," said Dennis Carpenter, associate superintendent for Human Resources at NCSS, in a press release.

He said school officials are eager to share with applicants their highly competitive salaries and benefits, facilities and safe working environments, in addition to information about the county, which has community support and affordable housing.

"Newton County School System has a lot to offer," Carpenter said. "Newton County is a great place to work and live."
