COVINGTON - Starting this year, the Newton County School System will hold centralized registration year-round.
As of Wednesday, parents can register their students at Clements Theme School. This includes students in kindergarten through 12th grades who are new to the county or who have moved to a new school zone over the summer; the school system held prekindergarten registration in March, and all of its slots are full.
"For the past three years, we did centralized registration during the summer only" at the Newton County Board of Education offices, said RaNae Fendley, director of student services at NCSS. "Clements is (now) the permanent place for registration."
Registration will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Clements, 66 Jack Neely Road in Covington.
Parents or guardians who need to register their children should bring with them to registration the following: their photo ID, the student's birth certificate and Social Security card or a signed waiver, a clinic information card, a test score result form and a copy of the student's most recent report card, withdrawal form and discipline report.
Form 3231, which is the Certificate of Immunization, also is required for registration, and Form 3300, which is the eye/ear/dental certificate, is needed for students entering a Georgia public school for the first time or re-entering a Georgia school after being gone for one entire school year.
They also need to bring two proofs of residence, which includes a utility bill and a lease agreement or mortgage statement.
If applicable, parents also need to provide proof of custody/guardianship and special education records.
More information about centralized registration is available by calling 770-787-1330 or visiting www.newtoncountyschools.org.
