The following food service establishment inspection reports were provided by the Environmental Health Division of the Rockdale County Health Department and the Newton County Health Department. Restaurants that score from 90 to 100 get a letter grade A; those that rate 80-89 get a B; a tally of 70-79 is a C; and below 70 is a U, or unacceptable. A restaurant scoring 70 or above is allowed to operate if there are no critical violations. If a facility is rated U on consecutive inspections, it must close and the owner must prove that it can be operated safely before reopening is allowed.

Violations: Employee did not wash hands before putting on gloves to work with corn on the cob. Employee drinks in coolers and on counters in food prep area. Handsink handles dirty with dried batter mix. Employee handled raw shrimp then handled cooked fish with no hand wash in between. Keep food separated and protected. No sanitizer in sanitizer buckets. Not cold holding food properly. Chemicals stored next to food and on top of food prep area. Thawing fish by sitting out on trays, thawing corn on cob in water (not running water). Missing thermometers in different coolers. Delivered boxes of utensils stored on floor - keep utensils and food stored 6 inches off floor. Employee hair not restrained fully. Employee has long/fake nails. Utensils stored on vegetable sink. Utensils stacked wet. Gaskets on coolers torn or are half missing. Cooler not working properly. Coke machine near nozzles leaking. Walk-in freezer door will not close fully. Non-using cooler has mold on inside. Fan covers in walk-in freezer dirty. Hose end down in mop sink. No backflow prevention on mop sink faucet. Floors dirty in kitchen area. Cracked tile floors and walk-in freezer door.

Violations: Tea nozzle dirty. Dirty slicer. Sanitizer weak in buckets. Food not being cold held properly.
· West Newton Elementary, 96-A, 13387 Brown Bridge Road, Covington. Date: May 4
Violations: Some mold growth inside ice machine at top.
· Wing Cafe, 93-A, 13015 Brown Bridge Road, Covington. Date: May 4
Violations: Dirty inside microwave. Inspection report not posted properly. No test strips. Dirty shelving. Chicken cooler dirty on inside. Gaskets dirty on coolers. Dirty floors. Freezer door lid cracked. No splash guard between three-compartment sink and vegetable sink.

Violations: Have not taken food safety class within 90 days of opening. Employee fixing sandwiches bare handed. Raw eggs stored next to bread. Raw chicken stored over miscellaneous ready-to-eat food items. Food not being cold held properly. Not date marking properly. Bulk storage containers not labeled - must label with common name of food that is not easily recognizable. No digital thermometer. Food prep employees not restraining hair properly. Storing dirty pots and pans in vegetable sink. Two-door cooler broken. No test strips. Bottom of freezer inside dirty. Rice warmer dirty. Wet mops stored in bucket. Employee purses next to food.

Violations: Need hand sink in dishwash machine area. No splash guard on sides of shelving between hand sink and four-compartment sink to protect utensils from splash up.
· Newton High School, 92-A, 140 Ram Drive, Covington. Date: May 6
Violations: Hand sink in back is blocked by cart and standalone fan. Rust on wall inside walk-in freezer. Ice machine broken. Warmers broken. Gasket loose on cooler door. No air gap on drain lines of food prep sink and four-compartment sink. Tile missing on floor near four-compartment sink.
