CONYERS - The Jeff Blount Memorial All-Star Baseball Camp is set for next week at Heritage High School's Danny Blue Field.
Blount, a Conyers native, was a teacher and coach at Rockdale and Salem high schools. He passed away in September after losing his battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Several years ago, he started the All-Star Baseball Camp. After his passing, a decision was made by his fellow coaches to continue the camp. All proceeds from the camp will go to the Jeff Blount Memorial Foundation. The camp's coaching staff includes Heritage pitching coach Terry Cole, Heritage outfield/hitting coach Mike Swords and Heritage infield coach Marion Hanahan. The camp starts Monday and will run through Thursday. The cost is $85 and it is open to players ages 6-13. The typical camp day will consist of stretching and agilities from 8 to 8:30 a.m., throwing progression from 8:30-9, defensive stations from 9-10:30 and hitting stations from 10:30-noon. Local players who will participate as camp instructors include Brent Allen (Darton College), Matt Dallas (Kennesaw State), Cory Blackmon (North Georgia/Atlanta Braves organization), Anthony Bazzani (Heritage), Brandon Thomas (Heritage), Chase Ware (Heritage), Drew Dentler (Georgia Perimeter), Dustin Dunlop (Eastern Kentucky), Nick Woodward (Heritage), Taylor Lamb (Georgia Perimeter), Travis Tarleton (Heritage) and Tyler Austin (Heritage). All participants are asked to come dressed in baseball attire, which includes a hat, glove, bat and cleats. They are also asked to bring a water bottle. Each camper will receive a T-shirt. Walk-up registrations will be accepted on Monday. For more information, contact Terry Cole at 770-868-6971 or at tgcole9616@yahoo.com.
