Rain doesn't stop roadwork

A little rain Thursday morning didn't stop road crews from getting their job done. The milling and resurfacing of Ga. Highway 36 in downtown Covington will be ongoing during the next three weeks, so motorists should expect small delays. The project will run from west of Eagle Drive, extending to Ga. Highway 81, and on Ga. Highway 36 South beginning at Clark Street, where crews are working here, and extending to Church Street. The DOT is funding the project at a cost of $567,980.91, with the city paying for utility work at a cost of $30,810. Later this year, the DOT will abandon the portion of the highway that runs around the Square to the city's ownership.
