Covington Councilwoman Hawnethia Williams received a Certificate of Achievement from the Georgia Municipal Training Institute at the Georgia Municipal Association's 76th Annual Convention in Savannah on June 23.
The Georgia Municipal Training Institute is a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government and provides a nationally recognized series of training opportunities for elected city officials. To receive a Certificate of Achievement, a city official must complete a minimum of 72 units of credit. The training program consists of a series of 24 hour six-unit courses. "This is an outstanding achievement," GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon said. "We commend Council Member Williams for this accomplishment and for the dedication she's shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official." Williams was also recently elected as third vice president of the GMA's fifth district. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary nonprofit organization that provides legislative advocacy, research, training, employee benefits and technical consulting services to its 500 member cities.More like this story
