COVINGTON - The proprietor of L&B Recycling in Porterdale recently reported to a Covington Police officer that he had video surveillance tape showing a suspect stealing radiators from his business, according to a Covington Police Department incident report.
The business owner said that approximately 100 to 300 pounds of radiators were stolen. The report states he valued the radiators, which he said had been cleaned and were composed of copper and aluminum, at approximately $500.
The CPD officer notified the owner of Oconee Metal that if anyone brought in any "cleaned aluminum copper radiators" to notify the CPD.
About 15 minutes later the owner of Oconee Metal called the officer and said "there was a subject there with approximately 150 pounds of radiators," the incident report states.
Officers reviewed the video tape and confirmed that the man shown stealing the radiators from L&B Recycling matched the description of the man who was trying to sell them to Oconee Metal, just across the street, according to the report.
The matter was turned over to CPD detectives and Caycee Lee Spears, 18, of 12145 Ga. Highway 36, Lot 6, was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by taking and driving without a license.
