COVINGTON - The driver who allegedly crashed into a motorcyclist, killing him over the Fourth of July weekend, has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the incident, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Johnny Otis Workman, 30, of 132 Oconee Circle, Eatonton, has been arrested and booked into the Newton County Detention Center on the following charges: homicide by vehicle, DUI, driving while license is suspended or revoked, reckless driving, improper lane usage, no proof of insurance and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. Trooper B. Cuendet of Conyers GSP Post 46 said just before 3 a.m. July 5, David J. Nunnelley, 46, of 63 Wildwood Trail, Oxford, was killed when a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Workman struck him. The crash occurred at the intersection of Access Road and Old Oxford Road. Cuendet said moments before a GSP trooper had attempted a traffic stop on Workman on the Access Road in front of Ginn Motor Company. Workman stopped momentarily, but as the trooper began to exit his vehicle, Workman took off and continued traveling westbound down the Access Road, the trooper reported. Cuendet said Workman continued traveling more than a mile, when he apparently lost control and struck the motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction.
