Sponsors sought for 5K Fuzz Run

COVINGTON - It's not quite time for the 26th annual Fuzz Run yet, but it is time to think about how you want to contribute.

The Covington Police Department is kicking off its sponsorship drive for the event, which takes place Sept. 12.

"We'll be contacting our regular and very supportive sponsors. We know there are a lot of new businesses in town, and if they would like to be involved in the Fuzz Run, we'd be glad to have them," Detective D.J. Seals said.

There are different levels of sponsorship, from making a monetary donation to purchasing bananas and energy bars that are distributed to runners, to paying for banners and the cost to run the scoreboard.

"It's a big thing to put on ... there are many sponsorship opportunities," Seals said.

Depending upon the level of support, the name of a sponsor's business or organization may be included on Fuzz Run T-shirts handed out to runners.

Sponsorship is a great way to get involved in the increasingly popular event, which drew a record 2,600 runners and 500 spectators last year, Seals said.

"It's really expanded from a race to almost a festival now," he said.

Anyone interested in being a sponsor should call the Covington Police Department at 770-786-7605.

The event will once again be a 5K run/walk and include a 1 mile fun run/walk.

The Fun Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m., with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Conyers Street Gym.

Registration is $14 or $18 on the day of the race.

The run benefits the Police Who Care Fund, which helps police officers and their families with financial needs and also supports local charities.
